Can Tim Burton do anything wrong?

USA Today released these images from Tim Burton's upcoming Alice in Wonderland coming March 2010. However, the plot is a lot different than people were expecting:
The traditional tale has been freshened with a blast of girl power, courtesy of writer Linda Woolverton (Beauty and the Beast). Alice, 17, attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. Off she runs, following a white rabbit into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years before yet doesn't remember.
So it's a sequel basically. Fine with me. In addition to the three you see below (Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter [LOVE HER], and Anne Hathaway) it also stars Michael Sheen, Mia Wasikowska, Matt Lucas, Crispin Glover, Stephen Fry and Alan Rickman.

Blast from the Past: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

So occasionally when I see a movie that I had never seen before and I clearly should have I'll post a review.
This time it's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. There was really no reason for me to not like this movie. First of all it's Tim Burton who is a master at his craft. Second it's Johnny Depp; another master at his craft. And finally the classic tale that I had read growing up.
Now the first question was whether this movie was necessary. I don't think it was necessary but I don't think it was unneeded either. The Gene Wilder version is classic and always will be. But I actually prefer this one. This movie is flashy, funny, charming, spectacular, and sweet which I think the story demands. Freddie Highmore was fantastic as well. Great movie and highly recommended.
